Holy Google, Batman!
Wow, I'm link #10 for "olympus fashion week project runway". Seven of the nine links ahead of me are either OFW official pages, or major media pages covering OFW. And I'm only the 3rd blog, behind the greatness that is BPR...
If you got here looking for fabulousness, welcome, and have a look around!
Oh, and just to prove what a freaking nerd I am, the equation displayed behind Al and Donny Osmond is the most common form of the time-independent version of Schroedinger's wave equation for non-relativistic systems
So
far it looks like Laura is the only one without a swimsuit. Please, oh great fashion deities, say it isn't so, say Laura ISN'T the decoy.
Also, Nazri is modeling for Uli.... which may indicate a last minute model shuffle. Not good.
My
first impressions: Jeffrey pulled a Santino. I actually LIKE his clothes.
Especially the very 1940's swimsuit and the green striped dress. Uli
is Uli. Yeccch. But she actually made pants, I think. Laura is
Laura, but at least she did a number of different silhouettes and some
of the dresses are really fun. Michael: what a disappointment. Some
of the dresses are nice, but mostly it looks like a bad hip-hop
video.....

Ah, I missed it! I'm sure I'll catch it on rerun

Jeffery has tamed down for sure. I've been more impressed with Michael through the season, this is a disappointment. I wanted the ATL guy to win.

I'm going to ask an ignorant question, I'm sure. What is this decoy you speak of? Is this something you know of from a previous season or did I just miss something when I missed this last episode? I feel lost.

the fashion week runway show happens before the episode in which the final three are revealed. therefore the person who gets 4th place has a show as well so that no one knows who the top three are until that episode airs.
i liked uli's the best, you cant blame her for doing "uli" dresses because it is an Uli fashion show. I liked michaels except for that orange nightmare outfit. i think laura's was the worst. all of jeffery's models looked fat.

Steve Irwin died at 11am Monday morning after being stung by a Sting Ray off the coast of Australia, north of Cairns. Evidently Steve and his crew were filming an underwater documentary.
The irony of it is that Sting Rays aren't considered to be especially dangerous, and stings often cause little more than skin irritation.
Steve leaves behind his wife Terri and children Bindi Sue (
and Bob (2 and a half).
Terri Irwin was in Tasmania, and wasn't present during the shoot. She was notified shortly afterward by Tasmanian authorities.
Steve touched a lot of people because of his passion for wildlife and his honesty about who he was and what he did. And how much he loved his family. I was always a big fan of Steve's and I will miss him more than I should.
1
I feel like I've lost one of my heroes. My husband and I chose Australia for our honeymoon in no small part due to his genuine love for the flora and fauna of his home. I hope that Bindi and Bob come to know how much he was loved by so many in the international community. I'll miss you, Steve.

Well, darn. I just loved that guy. I loved so much how he got all excited about the creatures he worked with.
I'm saying a prayer for his family. What awful, awful news for them.

Wow, that sucks...I'm sad, not just for his family, but for all the fans, and for the fact that we've lost a sciencey-person with real enthusiasm and charisma...we need all of those we can get.
I guess the only thing you can say is that he went out doing what he loved. I suppose that's better than him getting killed by a drunk driver or something...

Very tragic.
Have you ever seen Bindi on film? She has her father's gift. She gave a dissertation on something animal-related and appeared as knowledgeable, competent, passionate, and entertaining as her father, but in a little girl way.
Bless them all. That poor family. Huge shoes to fill.

This makes me very sad. I must have said no less than 50 times yesterday, “I can’t believe it.” I just keep thinking of all of these children who watch him. How devastating, I so wouldn't want to have to talk to my children about losing one of their childhood icons. That's the nice thing about cartoons, they might get hit with an anvil but they always come back.

How sad. I loved that guy. So did the boy. I hope his wife and daughter and crew continue on tv. That is what he'd have wanted I think.

It is a rarity in this world to find so truly great a man, who so truly never tried to be any more than a man.
Our world does and should mourn the loss of a man whose name should be remembered with the Ghandi's and Mother Theresa's of the world, passive, dedicated, and world shaking in both accomplishments and resolve.

South Park: Smarter, Funnier, and adding insult to injury
From Yahoo! UK:
Former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein is being made to watch his appearance in cult cartoon South Park while he is behind bars.
The deposed leader on trial in Iraq was featured in the movie spin-off as the lover of the devil. South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut featured Hussein and Satan attempting to take over the world together.
Speaking at the Edinburgh International Television Festival, South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone said US Marines guarding the former dictator during his trial for genocide were making him watch the movie "repeatedly".
"I have it on pretty good information from the Marines on detail in Iraq that they showed him the movie last year. That's really adding insult to injury. I bet that made him really happy," Stone said.
Bill at INDC adds, "...I must bask in this perfect manifestation of justice in the South Park conservative worldview (aggressive foreign policy topples murderous dictator, who is then taunted with [a] naughty, filthy (South Park!) movie)..."
For those of you not familiar with South Park's depiction of Saddam, he is a Candian pansy (with requisite flip-top head) who was mauled to death by badgers before descending into Hell and beginning a homosexual relationship with Satan.... who eventually discovers that Saddam is only after his power as lord of the underworld.....
When Satan confronts Saddam, he whines his way back into Satan's heart with a song and dance number worthy of Rogers and Hammerstein (NSFW for language)

Goodbye Mr. Agony of defeat!
ABC's Wide World of Sports is about to be no more:
"ESPN will become the overarching brand for all sports programming carried on the ABC Television Network beginning Saturday, Sept. 2 -- the debut of ABC's college football season. "We're using the word evolutionary," said George Bodenheimer, President, ESPN, Inc. and ABC Sports and Co-Chairman, Disney Media Networks. "We're trying to move the ball forward in sports television and we think this is another step in that direction." "
They quit showing the iconic opening featuring the signature line "The Thrill of Victory and the Agony of Defeat" years ago, but it's still sad to think that we'll never see Vinko Bogataj crash again.
1
Yeah, "ESPN will become the overarching brand for all sports"......
Right.
Flip on ESPN right now and there's a darned good chance you'll see that exciting sport, POKER. Duh!

I think we will see that clip again. It is part of the sports fabric, particularly the non-major sports fabric.

I'm actually old enough to remember that ESPN stands for "Entertainment and Sports Programming Network." Poker is at least entertaining. Then again, so is hockey, and it's an actual sport.
The thing that annoys me most about ESPN since they went cultural phenom on us is that they tend to be too full of themselves rather than of sports and entertainment.
And they can't ever take Wide World of Sports away from us. We used to pretend to BE Vinko! "Hey, Ma - look!" [dives down stairs] "The Agony of Defeat!"

Seven is the TiVo Anniversary
For our anniversary we bought ourselves something useful: a TiVo and a DVD-R.
How did I ever live before TiVo?
No, really.
No shit, folks. I was a TiVo atheist. I couldn't think of a single reason to have a TiVo. I had a VCR, and if I wasn't lazy I could record whatever I wanted, right?
Well, that was before I discovered that there are a bazillion public domain educational shows on in the middle of the night in the LA area. And there's no good way to find out when they're on.
So we decided to get one for DH to use to record these shows and drop them to DVDs to use in his class. And at the same time, we can use it to record/watch all of our favorite shows.
In the process of doing this, I found a WHOLE bunch of shows that I love that I didn't even know were still on. For example, the original Whose Line is on BBC America in the mornings. No kidding. And Monty Python is on PBS at random times. And Quincy is on everyday on a local independent channel! Just randomly by chance, looking for something else.
I LOVE QUINCY!
Within about 20 minutes I had more than 20 shows set up for Season Pass. Yeah, I suck.
1
Quincy? Jack Klugman, right? Yeah, that was good!

We got our Tive about 6 months ago. I was like you and did not know what I was missing. What is live TV? Even if I watch live, I let it build up so I can pass over the commercials.
And Quincy rocks!!!! I remeber watching it during summer vacations.

I'm not so up on my TV tech, but whatever that cable box thingy is that we have, that makes it so you can watch stuff and rewind/etc in the middle like tapes, I love it. DVR, I think. I never see commercials. Even if the show comes on, live, I wait, even 5-8 minutes will do, (go get a snack, whatever) so I can keep 5-8 min off of the commercials and then keep fast-forwarding thru them. If that makes sense.

Oh how I looooove my DVR (we have Moxie). I went into the whole deal kicking and screaming - my hubby loves to try new technologies. Me? Not so much... But now I can't *imagine* my life with out it.
Happy Anniversary!

We rarely watch a 'live' show anymore; much easier to TiVo for about 8 minutes, then start watching. You can fastforward through all the commercials that way! *S*

Dude, I Tivo Quincy every day! Thank you for providing a safe place for me to admit that.
For all the Sci-Fi freaks with cable....
Serenity is playing on Cinemax On Demand (free if you have Cinemax) until 8/16, and I assume on Cinemax all month.
1
Can you believe that, in spite of my love of sci-fi novels, I hadn't watched the Firefly series until this week? I just never watch TV so I missed it until I made an impulse buy of the DVD. Loved it! I think I may swing by Best Buy and get the Serenity movie, too.

I finally got to watch the whole thing. Highly entertaining.
Almost as funny as Smith himself was following the Spanish subtitles. Not a trace of bad language or slang.

wow, that was nuts ... i mean, a. i never saw dave gahan look so at peace with himself ... b. the only video i ever saw of this song a hundred thousand times was filmed on wide open spaces and grassy knolls, and d.g. was wearing some kind of royal garments (i.e. crown & robe), and c. those towers were unbelievable ... when i was a kid in elementary school, i went on at least two class trips there, not to mention the dozens of times i ventured in on my own as i grew up. slimy terrorist bastards. *sucks teeth*

Slowly, Slowly
Coming back to life, that is. Been glued to a keyboard for 3 weeks now, trying to get the grants out. One is off my plate, in more capable hands than my own, and the other needs all the TLC I can give it between now and tomorrow afternoon.
It will go out then. Oh yes, it will go out.
Spent the weekend in Fresberg, helping my mother pick paint colors and playing with the kiddies when I wasn't stuck in front of yet another computer. A much needed break, let me tell you.
Two things made me laugh: Christina muses the future, and puts me (ME!?!!?!?!?!??) in charge on an intergalactic women's retreat and fat farm. Although the working with Bou thing is about right. I suspect the two of us would work together pretty well....
Also, sarahk finally posts her 24 finale recap. Involuntary snorting ensued. You have been warned.
Reality TV junkie: OD on finales
For once the guy who should have one DID WIN.
Make that for twice. Congrats American Idol Taylor and Top Chef Harold.
And, BTW, no matter how many fancy edits you used, it was clear that Tiffani was SOOO not going to win. Especially after she tried to claim Dave's dessert as her own....
AI blogging: Kat Sucks edition
This is what all the fuss was about? Katherine's rendition of Somewhere over the Rainbow? PLEASE. It blew ass. She was on pitch, and that's about all it had to recommend it, regardless of whether she did it better this time or not.
Yes, when you do an iconic song you need to switch it up in order to own it, but SOtR is a CLASSIC. You do not turn it into Britney Spears pop!
Also, you DUMB BITCH, you are a SINGER. You should have that first note in your head. BEFORE you start. If you can hit NO other note on your own, you need to be able to hit the starting pitch.
1
She was bad last night! Taylor's got it in the bag. I was pulling for Elliott or Chris, so I don't really care who wins at this point. My hubby has had a crush on Kat since the start...
