I remember that night too. When Gibson hit that home run, a girl I had a crush on was so estatic she jumped into my armes and nearly strangled me with a bone-crushing hug and kiss. Hey, it was great at the time.

Dagnabbit! I've been clicking her every day! How did I miss this post?????
I remember that day so well. The look on poor old Dennis Eckersley's face was priceless! We were visiting some friends in LA and were down on our Bums' chances until that moment.
And later, my Mom said, "He HAD do hit a home run, it's the only way he could have gotten to first base."
I'm taking a poll
Should I buy it or not? If I do it will be my (very early) birthday present. I'd love it. My favorite Dodger moment wrapped up in a shirt.... But still, it's $250 + shipping for something I'm likely to get mustard and nacho cheese all over...
What do you think? They have my size, which is a kind of rare thing. Hence why I want to get it now, rather than wait. If there was a T-shirt version (hence way cheaper).... or if it was Mike Scioscia's jersey (Mikey is my favorite Dodger of all time), it would be on its way here already. What do you think?
Update: responding to ZTZCheese's point in the comments, I can't get a regular personalized jersey with Gibson on the back and 23 as the number. MLB rules prohibit selling personalized jerseys with retired player name/number combinations. Believe me, I have looked into doing that many times. This is the only way to get one.

There is an option for a customized Dodgers T-Shirt at the lower left of the page, for a lot cheaper. It's not exactly the same (white on blue vs. blue on white), but you could get almost 10 of them for the same price...
But then again, it's not really the same thing, so, *shrug*.

My view is life is short. You gots the dough? You gets the shirt.
We all need a treat in life.

Speaking as someone who just placed an order for $235 for a case of wine... I say get the shirt!

Do it. If you can afford it... you love that shirt already and you'll enjoy every damn minute wearing it. It will be worth it. Life is short.
There is good stain remover now... just in case there is spillage. ;-)

How'd I miss this?
I'm with Helen. You gots the dough, you go getcha some.
I'm a firm believer in indulging the inner child now and then.

If the worry of a stain wouldn't keep you from wearing it with glee and your heart leaps with the very thought that it could be yours, go for it.
Get the thing you really want, then enjoy the heck out of it! (You know I do!

Barry Sucks! Barry Sucks!
Ok, it's over. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.... at least we will after we rehash #756 over and over and over and over again. Maybe tomorrow sometime......
Oh, and Barry, keep it in mind, cheaters never prosper. You may not have been convicted in a court of law, but NO ONE's head grows THREE sizes over the course of your major league career. Your skull bones fuse sometime in childhood.
Proud to be a member of the Dodger Stadium "Barr-roids" Crew

Does this mean we can stop hearing about the freakazoid? I'm sooooo sick of hearing about him and his stupid home runs.

Totally agree with you! These past couple of weeks have been miserable. When you could care less about Bonds and his 755 home run, yet the station airing your favorite team's game decides they have to cut in and play every single Bonds at-bat...it totally irritated me and my husband. Especially when there were game deciding plays going on.

I like this!
Dodgers move Nomar to 3rd base, Loney to first, and sit down Wilson Betemit. Betemit is #2 on my Dodgers Shit list, right behind that pathetic-ass, loss magnet Joe Beimel.
Nomar Garciaparra is moving across the diamond.
After spending the past season and a half as the Los Angeles Dodgers' first baseman, Garciaparra will move to third base, perhaps as early as Friday.
"We're trying to get ourselves in a position where we can be the best we can be, and that option right now is there for us," manager Grady Little said Monday. "Nomar's 100 percent on board. He's been over there before. It's not a strange place for him."
It opens up a chance for streaking James Loney to play first base. Loney is hitting .429 since being recalled from the minor leagues June 10.
"This has a lot to do with the way James Loney is swinging the bat and the way he's playing, too," Little said. "The primary factor is to try to help us win games. And we feel like this is a move we want to give a shot at right now."
Doin' the happy dance! Now if they can just straighten out the bullpen.....
WTF???
One of my favorite things to do, sportswise, is sit down and watch the first round of the NFL draft. I love college football, and I know quite a bit about it, and it's fun to watch the scheming and the trading and the guessing. It's like a chess match with overfed idiots calling the shots.
Yet every year it seems something ALWAYS prevents me from watching. This year, it's a home inspection scheduled for 9 AM tomorrow (tentatively.... I'm guessing the current owners won't be happy about that).
Oh well. Thank Goodness for TiVo. I'll Tivo the first bit and watch the rest LIVE. :-)
In other sports news, we went to our first Dodgers game of the year last night, Joe Beimel sucks, and we lost, but I brought home a new friend.

Well, a "Nomah" bobble head is pretty cool, but you may now officially envy me because we have one of these.
I mean, really. Nomar's career will end but a Dodger Dog is forever.
Of course, I still envy you because we haven't been to the hallowed grounds of Dodger Stadium for some time now, though Daughter Number One has been there recently.

I'm not going to be able to watch it either, but I'm looking for three from my team to be drafted in the first round, including maybe the number one pick. We'll see, I guess.

Maybe on TiVo its bearable, but otherwise, the NFL draft?!?!? I'm a pretty devout sports fan, but I don't know if I could sit there for hours watching that thing-- though I suppose it's still better than watching the anoerixic-capades also known as gymnastics.
Then again, if your only other option is the Dodgers, maybe I can understand....

Problem is, I don't think it's a good deal, unless you're having 3 or 4 Dodger Dogs apiece.
Also, the new lowest price is 10 bucks (up 3 bucks from last year) for left field pavilion or top deck. I like what the Dodgers have done on the field, but in the stadium and to the fans, I'm less pleased.
At least it's still called Dodger Stadium

Rest in Peace, Kirby
After suffering a massive stroke yesterday at his home in Arizona, family members chose to remove Hall of Famer Kirby Puckett from life support this afternoon, and he passed away at age 45.
Not surprisingly, the Strib has a great story on one of the good guys:
"Puckett rose from a Chicago housing project and became a Minnesota sports icon, bursting onto the scene as a rookie in 1984 with an energetic style and an effervescent smile, each all his own.
He led the Twins to the World Series in 1987 and 1991, leaping into walls as their center fielder and swinging with a might that belied his stocky, 5-8 frame.
He often said he played every game as if it were his last, and sure enough, on March 28, 1996, Puckett awoke with blurred vision in his right eye.
He never played again. He was diagnosed with glaucoma and retired on July 12, 1996.
For the next five years, Puckett remained a smiling fixture on the Minnesota scene, working as an executive vice president for the Twins in an ambassadorial role.
In 2001, he became a first-ballot inductee into the National Baseball Hall of Fame with 2,304 career hits, 10 All-Star selections and six Gold Glove Awards."
Despite some trying times, including never substantiated allegations of abuse and sexual harassment, Kirby's legacy is that of a star fallen too soon, and now, gone too soon.
I'm a huge Dodger fan, but Kirby Puckett was always one of my favorites, and I will miss him. May his family have peace in this difficult time.
I love Tommy Lasorda
He had the nuts to sing the Dodgers' version of "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" tonight at Wrigley Field as the Dodgers beat the snot out of the Cubbies....
You see, the lyrics of this particular version include "Root Root Root for the Dodgers".....
Too bad I can't find a link to the video....
My personal favorite version of the song, goes a little like this:
Take me out to the ballgame
Take me out to the crowd
Buy me some peanuts and Dodger Dogs
I don't care if I never come back
'Cause it's root, root, root for the Dodgers
If they don't win it's 'cause they SUCK
And it's 1, 2, 3 strikes you're out at the old ball game!
Yeah, I know, it's rhyme-challenged, but it sounds damn good at top volume in chorus from the upper deck at Chavez Ravine.....

s'OK. Simple rhymes can be too much to expect from Dodger fans, so really I won't hold it against you.
Although I will admit, the Dodger Dog beats the snot out of anything at Pac Bell Park. Even them garlic fries...
Go Giants,
